Ryan
Burke was born and raised in Maryland. He received a Bachelor of
Science Degree from Towson University before enrolling in Widener
University's College of Law. While in law school Ryan, worked as a law clerk
for the Office of the Federal Public Defender. After law school he returned
to Maryland and was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 2000. Although Ryan has
concentrated in criminal defense law he has experience and an interest in
civil law. He has attended seminars and courses offered by MICPEL on various
areas of practice. He has represented clients charged with everything from
Murder to Loitering and Traffic cases. Ryan has extensive District Court and
Circuit Court experience, including over 25 jury trials to verdict.
Ryan is a
member of the Maryland State Bar Association, The Maryland Criminal Defense
Attorneys Association and The Bar Association of Baltimore City. |

Dennis
Laye, an Air Force Veteran, partially financed his education with
the GI Bill. In 1990, Dennis was awarded a BA degree in Russian Language and
Literature by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He then
enrolled in the College of Law at the University of Illinois. He received
his JD degree in 1993. Dennis and his family moved to Maryland and he was
admitted to the Maryland Bar in December of 1993. His experience includes
Family Law, Workers Compensation and Personal Injury, but for the past 10
years he has concentrated his efforts in Criminal Defense. In 2000, Dennis
was recommended by the Maryland Public Defender and chosen by Chief Judge
Bell to serve on the Pretrial Release Project Advisory Committee and the
Bail System Task Force.
Dennis has
tried countless cases in the District Court and has tried close to 50 felony
jury trials with clients accused of First Degree Murder, Rape, Drug and
Handgun Charges. He is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, The
Maryland Criminal Defense Attorneys Association and The Bar Association of
Baltimore City. |

John Oden (center
in photo) is our paralegal and office manager. Mr. Oden has decades of
criminal justice experience. He has worked for the Office of the Public
Defender in every office in Baltimore, including Central Booking. In 2005,
John retired from the Office of the Public Defender and officially joined
Burke & Laye LLC. |
